HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the arrest of a North Carolina man who was trafficking significant amounts of cocaine to Pennsylvania for distribution in the Wilkes-Barre area.
Orlando M. Horton, 46, is charged with felony counts of possession with intent to deliver, flight, and related offenses. He was recently arraigned in Luzerne County, and bail was denied, with the magisterial district judge citing a flight risk.
Horton fled on foot from law enforcement officials who pulled over his vehicle on July 16. He discarded contraband while running before being captured in the area.
“Our agents became aware that this defendant was the engineer of a cocaine trafficking pipeline, and along with partners, we effectively closed that pipeline,” Attorney General Sunday said. “We continue to collaborate with law enforcement in every community of the Commonwealth to shut down traffickers who prey on the addictions of Pennsylvanians.”
The Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation, along with Pennsylvania State Police and Homeland Security Investigations tracked Horton’s movements last week and determined he was bringing a supply of cocaine to Wilkes-Barre from North Carolina.
Officials seized from the arrest scene more than 22 ounces of cocaine, along with marijuana and cash.
The case will be prosecuted by the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office. Criminal charges, and any discussion thereof, are merely allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
