HARRISBURG – Attorney General Dave Sunday and his office’s Bureau of Consumer Protection has filed a contempt petition against a Philadelphia-based towing group regarding breach of a 2022 court order.
The Office of Attorney General alleges that Angelina’s Towing and Recovery LLC and partners continue to tow vehicles from areas not clearly marked, and charge excessive fees and costs. The office sued the companies in 2020 for the same conduct and reached a settlement and court order in 2022.
The contempt petition seeks monetary relief totaling more than $220,000.
“The terms of this settlement were very clear, yet these companies continue to improperly tow consumers’ vehicles, and charge exorbitant fees,” Attorney General Sunday said. “Predatory towing is a scourge that causes tremendous anguish and financial burden for the vehicles’ owners, and will not be tolerated.”
The companies listed in the petition are: Angelina’s Towing and Recovery LLC, Siani’s Towing and Recovery LLC, Aubry’s Towing and Recovery LLC, and Michael Caban, Jr. They have allegedly continued to operate in violation of Pennsylvania’s Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law and Philadelphia’s Towing Law.
Following the 2022 court order, further investigation uncovered that the defendants continued to tow vehicles without proper signage or authorization, required consumers to pay towing and/or storage fees in cash or via CashApp, required consumers paying with credit cards to pay additional fees, and charged excessive and unlawful fees related to the towing and storage of the vehicles.
