HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that a Lebanon County jury convicted a man of rape and other offenses regarding abuse of a pre-teenage child more than a decade ago.
Derrick Miller, 45, of, Herndon, Northumberland County, will be sentenced on Nov. 18.
Following a two-day trial, the jury convicted Miller of rape, indecent assault, statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors, and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to testimony, Miller — at the time an acquaintance of the child’s family — raped the child while they were alone in a bedroom between 2013 and 2014. The child disclosed the abuse years later.
“I commend the brave survivor of this assault for having the courage to speak up with an initial report, then again in court, where her testimony ensured this child rapist was held accountable for what he did,” Attorney General Sunday said. “I also applaud the investigators and prosecutor whose hard work showed the jury that, despite the passing of many years, this was rape and the defendant was responsible.”
At sentencing, Lebanon County President Judge John C. Tylwalk, who presided over the trial, will order the sentence and make a determination on Miller’s status as a sexually violent predator.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Amy S. Muller.
