AG Shapiro, Bucks County DA Weintraub Charge Quakertown Doctor with Insurance Fraud, Forging Prescriptions

HARRISBURG – Attorney General Josh Shapiro and Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub today announced the arrest of a Quakertown doctor following two separate investigations into forged prescriptions and a faked disability claim.

Dr. Gregory Grabon, 43, was taken into custody this morning by the Quakertown Police Department, Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office and charged with insurance fraud, forgery, identity theft, theft by deception, and violations of the Controlled Substances Act.

The Office of Attorney General investigated Grabon’s insurance fraud while the Bucks County DA and Quakertown PD probed his forged drug prescription forms to obtain Controlled Substances for his own use.

“This defendant stole the identity of another doctor to fake his own disability and to, potentially, collect a lifetime of income he didn’t deserve. He also lied about the prescriptions he ultimately used for himself,” Attorney General Shapiro said. “My thanks to the Bucks County DA’s Office and Quakertown police for helping us investigate this case and hold this doctor accountable.”

“An arrest like Dr. Grabon’s sends a strong message to people everywhere that when it comes to drug diversion, no one is above the law. Not doctors, not patients. No one,” District Attorney Weintraub said.

Grabon submitted a disability claim July 2019 indicating he had become totally disabled due to many physical ailments. To support his claim, Grabon forged a doctor’s verification form and the signature of another doctor.

After Grabon was arrested in November for an unrelated theft, Quakertown and Bucks County investigators found that the doctor had been prescribing Ambien for himself, a Schedule IV narcotic. Several of the prescription forms Grabon used were used by medical providers at St. Luke’s Hospital in Quakertown or Rehabilitation Associates of Malvern.

Grabon did not work at either facility and admitted he had the St. Luke’s prescription forms printed himself.

Senior Deputy Attorney General Eric Schoenberg and Assistant District Attorney Edward Furman Jr. will jointly prosecute this case. All charges discussed are accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
