HARRISBURG — Attorney General Josh Shapiro is releasing the statement below following the nationwide federal court injunction today against the Trump Administration’s “Gag Rule”, a policy which would strip Title X funding away from healthcare providers including neighborhood clinics and Planned Parenthood.
“Today’s injunction is a win for the women of this Commonwealth and hands yet another defeat to the Trump Administration in its efforts to let politics interfere with the relationship between women and their doctors.
Title X funding keeps women and mothers across our nation healthy, providing essential healthcare services like contraception, preventive care, and cancer screenings. Our fight is critically important as Pennsylvania has the third highest number of Title X patients in the nation, receiving more than $13 million in funding and serving over 200,000 patients. Title X clinics serve all of the Commonwealth’s 67 counties and many are located in areas with a shortage of primary health care providers and facilities coupled with high levels of need. I applaud Judge McShane for not allowing this Administration to continue to play politics with our healthcare system. The fight is not over, but today’s decision is a victory for our efforts to protect the right of women to obtain the healthcare they need without letting politicians get in the way.”
