HHS Jeopardizes Pennsylvanians’ Healthcare by Moving Forward with Plan to Undermine the Nation’s Only Program Dedicated to Family Planning
HARRISBURG, PA — Today, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro unequivocally denounced the Trump Administration’s Department of Health and Human Services’ decision to move forward with its proposed Title X “gag rule” regulation, Compliance with Statutory Program Integrity Requirements. This regulation jeopardizes the healthcare of Pennsylvanians by denying access to comprehensive family planning services and unduly burdens Pennsylvania’s healthcare providers.
“Pennsylvanians deserve and depend on comprehensive healthcare services and basic information from doctors they trust,” said Attorney General Shapiro. “This includes neutral information about their reproductive choices, as well as critical services like birth control and preventive care, including cancer screenings. Plain and simple — this is an unacceptable attempt by the Trump Administration to insert the government between a woman and her doctor and gut family planning programs. I will take swift legal action to prevent this attack on Pennsylvanians’ access to healthcare.”
In August of 2018, Attorney General Shapiro and Governor Tom Wolf filed formal, legal comments opposing HHS’ proposed rule.
