HARRISBURG — Attorney General Shapiro today announced that his office filed a lawsuit against Uniontown furniture retailer B.J. Mundel Furniture Co. d/b/a Mundel’s Furniture and d/b/a Mundels Furniture and Appliance Outlet; Mundels Mattress Center, Inc.; and Randolph S. Mundel, Individually.
The Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection received consumer complaints alleging the Defendants failed to make timely delivery of merchandise and then failed to make timely refunds to consumers for merchandise not delivered. One consumer has been waiting for over two years for a refund of the deposit he made for a mattress that was never delivered.
Since 2017, at least $11,695 worth of furniture was not delivered to 12 consumers on the prearranged date. These consumer filed complaints with the Bureau of Consumer Protection stating they either had not received their furniture or a refund. Each payment to the Defendants ranged from $100 to $3,389.
“Pennsylvania consumers trusted this furniture company to deliver their mattresses, couches, tables and other furniture –promptly,” Attorney General Josh Shapiro said. “My Bureau of Consumer Protection won’t be taking a seat or sleeping on the job— we’re committed to being on the side of consumers. We’ll do everything necessary to obtain justice and restitution for those who were harmed.”
In connection with its lawsuit, the Bureau is seeking restitution for consumers, civil penalties and injunctive relief to ensure compliance with Pennsylvania’s Consumer Protection Law. The lawsuit was filed in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas by Senior Deputy Attorney General Amy L. Schulman.
