HARRISBURG – Attorney General Michelle Henry joins in applauding our law enforcement partners for their patience, professionalism, and persistence by removing an imminent threat from our community, escaped convicted killer Danelo Cavalcante.
The Office of Attorney General was honored to have assisted some of the Commonwealth’s finest agents and officials in the search efforts.
“This was an exhaustive search for an extremely violent and dangerous man that ended with the best possible outcome – the escapee’s capture without physical harm to residents or the brave officers who tracked him down,” Attorney General Henry said. “I commend the hundreds of searchers who were laser-focused in their mission, and did not flinch at the challenges they endured along the way.”
Now that the priority of capture has been achieved, here is insight on what will happen next.
Physically, Mr. Cavalcante will be transported to a State Correctional Institution, where he will be housed for the foreseeable future.
He is expected to be arraigned on the felony escape charge, which was filed on Aug. 31. The Office of Attorney General will handle the investigation and prosecution regarding Mr. Cavalcante’s escape from Chester County Prison.
At arraignment, as Mr. Cavalcante has already been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, we will be seeking for Mr. Cavalcante to remain in custody.
After arraignment, the next court date, regarding the escape charge, will be a preliminary hearing. We will keep the public advised, as appropriate, on court proceedings.
