AG Sunday Warns of Potential Scams Involving Donation Drive for York County Police Officers Killed, Injured Last Week

HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday and the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection are offering a warning about potential scams that could surface regarding donation drives for three Northern York County Regional Police officers who were killed last week and two other officers who were injured.

Scammers are always looking at current events for ways to develop scams that defraud individuals of their hard-earned dollars. Our Bureau of Consumer Protection aims to stay aware of those trending scams and heed advice to the public.

To achieve that, we encourage individuals considering making contributions to the families of the officers impacted in last week’s incident to research before sending donations.

Further, we encourage potential donors to visit the Northern York County Regional Police Department’s and York County, PA Sheriff‘s Office’s Facebook pages for more information on how to make donations. Additionally, individuals may determine the legitimacy of other fundraising efforts by researching whether the affected agencies, involved police officers/deputies associations, or Fraternal Order of Police lodges support or endorse a particular effort.

“Pennsylvanians are caring and generous people always willing to help in the wake of tragedy,” Attorney General Dave Sunday said. “With so many people seeking ways to help those affected by the horrifying shooting last week in York County, it is important to ensure those charitable donations reach those who need them.”

Anyone who feels they were targeted, or fell victim to a scam, should file a complaint with the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection at www.attorneygeneral.gov or by calling 717-787-3391.
