HARRISBURG – Attorney General Josh Shapiro today announced that his Office has filed suit against the managing members of a Bucks County wedding and event venue — Lawrence Plummer Jr. and Karen Plummer — for accepting reservations and deposits without providing services.
The defendants operated The Barn at Forestville LLC at 1493 Forest Grove Road, Furlong, and offered the facility as an event/wedding venue plus offered related goods and services.
“The Plummers preyed upon people who were preparing for the most special day of their lives,” Attorney General Shapiro said. “They vowed to deliver then stole down payments and deposits for weddings, operated an illegitimate business, violated a pre-existing agreement, violated local and state law, and took advantage of those who were acting in good faith.”
Buckingham Township cited the defendants on Jan. 12, 2018, for, among other reasons, operating the barn without a zoning permit. Later that year, on April 6, the defendants entered an agreement with Buckingham Township to stop using the barn as an event/wedding venue by the following November. The Plummers proceeded to ignore their agreement and continue operations.
Buckingham Township sued, and the court, on Dec. 31, 2019, ordered the defendants to be permanently enjoined from providing the event/wedding venue to consumers for compensation at 1493 Forest Grove Road.
Shapiro’s lawsuit claims the defendants made misrepresentations to consumers about their legal authority to provide goods and services. They also failed to provide goods and services after receiving deposits and down payments, and refused to refund money to consumers.
The lawsuit is seeking restitution, civil penalties, costs, and a permanent injunction that would forbid the defendants from engaging in event/wedding venue businesses or similar establishments anywhere throughout Pennsylvania.
Attorney General Shapiro said consumers who believe they were victimized by the Plummer’s business practices should submit an online complaint with the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection at www.attorneygeneral.gov/submit-a-complaint/consumer-complaint. This complaint is filed in the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas.
