HARRISBURG – Attorney General Dave Sunday announced numerous charges against a Schuylkill County man following an investigation into the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Matthew Snyder, 33, of Ashland, was recently arrested and charged with more than 500 felony counts of sexual abuse of children and one count of criminal use of communication facility.

He was denied bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 8.

“This defendant used digital platforms to collect and distribute horrific child sexual abuse material,” Attorney General Sunday said. “There is no place for this conduct in civilized society, and our Child Predator Section will continue to aggressively pursue those who exploit children online.”

The investigation began after Snyder contacted the Office of Attorney General tipline, claiming he intended to report individuals allegedly involved in illicit online material. Prior to a follow-up call, investigators identified 38 CyberTips associated with the phone number he provided.

A search warrant executed at Snyder’s residence resulted in the seizure of multiple electronic devices. A review identified more than 850 files of CSAM in his possession.

This case was investigated by the Office’s Child Predator Section and is being prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Mary Phillips. Criminal charges, and any discussion thereof, are merely allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
