Internship Opportunities

The PA Office of Attorney General offers internships for currently enrolled students year round in offices all over Pennsylvania. Whether a legal, undergraduate, or graduate student, Interns work alongside attorneys and administrative staff to promote the interests of the Commonwealth and its people. Interns also meet and hear from leaders in law and government, and may participate in other group educational programs during their time at OAG.

Charitable Trusts & Organizations Section Intern – Summer 2019 - Public Protection Division - Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia (19023101)

The Charitable Trusts and Organizations Section protects the public’s interest in all property committed to charitable purposes.  Among its responsibilities, the Section oversees nonprofit corporations generally, including nonprofit mergers, conversions and acquisitions, and may seek to revoke an organization’s franchise and articles whenever it misuses, abuses or fails to use its powers and privileges correctly

Bureau of Consumer Protection Intern – Summer 2019 - Public Protection Division - Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh (19023103)

The Bureau of Consumer Protection mediates and investigates consumer complaints. It takes legal action against companies that engage in unfair or deceptive business practices in cases where a lawsuit by the Attorney General serves the public interest and benefits the citizens of the Commonwealth.

Antitrust Intern – Summer 2019 - Public Protection Division - Harrisburg (19023102)

The Antitrust Section helps protect the free enterprise system by detecting anticompetitive practices and taking legal action to stop them.  The Section brings legal actions to recover overcharges paid by consumers and state agencies as the result of violations of state and federal antitrust laws.  The Section also reviews and challenges mergers which may result in consumers or state agencies paying higher prices or which will harm Pennsylvania’s economy.

Organized Crime Intern – Summer 2019 - Criminal Law Division - North Huntingdon, Norristown (19021101)

The Organized Crime Section (OCS) of the Criminal Law Division investigates and prosecutes complex criminal enterprises.   OCS works closely with the Investigating Grand Jury, the PA State Police, and U.S Attorneys’ offices. OCS has previously investigated organizations involved in drug trafficking, gambling, loansharking, extortion, identity theft, insurance fraud, auto theft, money laundering, intimidation of witnesses, and murder.

Insurance Fraud Legal Intern – Summer 2019 - Criminal Law Division - Norristown, Harrisburg (19021103)

This Section investigates and prosecutes insurance fraud pursuant to the Insurance Fraud Prevention Act (Act 166 of 1994) signed into law in 1994. Financial support for this Section is based totally on funding from the Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority which administers a fund paid for by the insurance industry on an annual basis.

Criminal Prosecutions Intern – Summer 2019 - Criminal Law Division - Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Norristown (19021102)

The Criminal Prosecutions Section investigates and prosecutes a complete spectrum of crimes ranging from the simplest of misdemeanors, to complex corrupt organizations and conspiracies, to first degree murder cases wherein the death penalty is sought and sentenced.

Torts Litigation Intern – Summer 2019 - Civil Law Division - Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Norristown, Scranton (19022101)

The Torts Litigation Section defends the Commonwealth and its agencies, officials, and employees in personal injury actions. Many of these involve claims made against the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for death or serious bodily injury resulting from alleged negligence with regards to highway design, construction, and maintenance.

Tax Litigation Intern – Summer 2019 - Civil Law Division - Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh (19022103)

Tax Litigation represents the Commonwealth in litigation of state tax appeals from the Board of Finance and Revenue to the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania and beyond. It handles an active caseload of over 2,000 cases, more than half of which involve corporate and sales and use taxes. The majority of the remaining cases involve personal income taxes.

The Litigation Section represents the Commonwealth and its agencies, officials, and employees in a wide variety of lawsuits, usually in federal court, most of which concern the constitutionality of state statutes, the operation of state programs, the conduct of state law enforcement officers, the administration of state prisons, or the employment practices of state agencies.

Interns in this placement will work directly with the Office of Attorney General’s Multimedia Director who is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the OAG website. The Multimedia Director also creates all graphics for social media and participates in making videos for education and outreach initiatives.

The Office of Policy and Planning advises the Attorney General and other senior officials in OAG on matters of internal and external policy, conducts research, and helps plan the future of the Office. Interns will deal with a dynamic range of tasks, the subject matter of which will be highly dependent on current developments in public policy, both in Pennsylvania and nationwide.
