HARRISBURG — Attorney General Josh Shapiro today announced that a Schuylkill County man was found guilty by a jury of third-degree murder, theft and related charges.

Michael Marchalk, 38, of Pear Street, Barnesville, PA, was originally apprehended on June 23, 2017 after stealing the victim’s truck and wallet and fleeing following striking the victim multiple times with a baseball bat causing his death.

This case was referred to the Office of Attorney General by Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman.

“Our prosecutors worked closely with law enforcement to locate and arrest a dangerous killer who fled to another state to avoid prosecution for murder. We are pleased with the jury’s verdict for this violent offender who attacked his own father,” said Attorney General Josh Shapiro. “Thanks to strong collaboration with our partners in the Pennsylvania State Police, we were able to bring this man to justice.”

Sentencing has not yet been scheduled for this defendant. This case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Rebecca Elo and Senior Deputy Attorney General Christopher Phillips.
