HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that a Tioga County man has been sentenced to eight to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child.
Philip McCormick, 39, of Blossburg, previously pleaded guilty to involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child less than 16 years old, unlawful contact with a minor, and aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 16.
As part of his sentence, McCormick is required to register as a Megan’s Law offender for life.
“This defendant committed horrific crimes against a child who believed him to be a trustworthy adult,” Attorney General Sunday said. “These crimes cause long-lasting trauma for the child, and my office will continue to advocate for children who are harmed by predators like this defendant.”
According to investigators, McCormick began sexually assaulting the victim, to whom he was closely acquainted, when she was 13 years old. The abuse continued for approximately two years before the victim disclosed the assaults to her mother.
This case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Rachael Coleman and Deputy Attorney General Andrew Biggins.
