AG Shapiro Statement On U.S. DOL’s Withdrawal Of Trump-Era “Independent Contractor” Rule

May 5, 2021 | Topic: Peoples AG

Today, the U.S. Department of Labor announced it will withdraw the Trump administration’s “Independent Contractor” rule, which changed the test for independent contractor status, potentially misclassifying many employees and stripping them of legal protections. Included below is a statement from Attorney General Josh Shapiro.

“In January, my office led a coalition of 24 attorneys general in opposition to this rule and today’s decision by the U.S. Department of Labor to rescind this last ditch effort by the Trump administration to strip away key employment protections and leave workers vulnerable to harm is a win for workers everywhere. My office will continue to protect all workers, ensure they are properly classified, and paid a fair wage for a fair day’s work.”
