HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced charges against a York County doctor who solicited lewd photographs and coerced methadone patients into sexual acts in exchange for him continuing to authorize their access to drug treatment medications.
The Office of Attorney General investigation, which involved a presentment from the 52nd Statewide Investigating Grand Jury, led to numerous charges against the 63-year-old doctor, Christopher Davis, who was medical director at Pyramid Healthcare Treatment Center at the time of the crimes.
Davis was arrested on Wednesday for offenses including: rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, sexual extortion, and related offenses.
Bail was set at $1 million.
“This doctor abused his role as a gatekeeper to necessary medications for vulnerable patients by manipulating, intimidating, and assaulting numerous patients between 2022 and 2024,” Attorney General Sunday said. “The patients relied on the defendant to provide compassionate care and treatment as they navigated a path to recovery, instead, he betrayed them time and time again. People seeking to better their lives through treatment should be celebrated and supported, not preyed upon and exploited.”
Davis had sole control over the patients’ access to methadone, a Schedule II controlled substance that is used to treat opioid addiction.
The investigation revealed that between 2022 and 2024, Davis exploited his position to coerce and manipulate female patients to engage in sexual acts with him and provide him with sexual or nude images of themselves.
If the patients refused his advances, Davis would withhold or threaten to withhold treatment benefits and medications.
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Robert Smulktis and Deputy Attorney General Christy Schlottman of the Drug Strike Force Section. Criminal charges, and any discussion thereof, are merely allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
