Woman Generated Unauthorized Prescriptions for 3,150 Opioid and Other Pills

Harrisburg — Attorney General Josh Shapiro today announced that a former Lackawanna County medical technician pleaded guilty to felony charges for forging prescriptions for 3,150 pills, including OxyContin, Percocet and Klonopin.

Allyson Delfino, 45, of Greentown, pleaded guilty to three felony counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and three counts of identity theft for generating unauthorized prescriptions at her former employer’s medical practice, Mount Cobb Medical Center and Greentown Medical Center. Delfino was fired in October 2017, following the discovery of her actions.

“The illegal diversion of prescription drugs is fueling the opioid epidemic across Pennsylvania,” Attorney General Josh Shapiro said. “Last year, our arrests for diversions increased 72 percent over the prior year. Whether you’re a medical technician in Jefferson Township or a dealer on a street corner, if you illegally divert prescription drugs, I’ll prosecute and hold you accountable.”

Delfino fraudulently generated the prescriptions in her name, as well as the names of her ex-husband, adult children and other individuals, including one senior citizen. Delfino picked up the prescriptions for those individuals at local pharmacies – without their consent or knowledge. A copy of the criminal complaint can be viewed here.

Sentencing for Delfino has not been scheduled. Penalties could include up to 15 years of incarceration and a $250,000 fine for each of the felony fraud counts. The case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General William Abraham.
