HARRISBURG — Attorney General Josh Shapiro today announced that Claire Risoldi, 71, of Doylestown, was sentenced to 11 ½ – 23 months in prison followed by 8 years of probation for masterminding an insurance fraud scheme worth $13 million. She was also ordered to pay $10.4 million in restitution, including proceeds from her “Clairemont” estate sale.
Risoldi was convicted in February 2019 by a jury of numerous felony charges including dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities, insurance fraud, theft by deception, attempted theft by deception and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. These charges were the result of a Grand Jury investigation.
“This defendant masterminded a multi-million dollar insurance fraud scheme to fund her own excessive lifestyle,” said Attorney General Josh Shapiro. “Insurance fraud harms all Pennsylvanians—the costs trickle down to consumers and inflate rates for everyone else. Insurance fraud costs the average U.S. family between $400 and $700 per year in the form of increased premiums. This is unacceptable. I’m grateful for the hard work of our Insurance Fraud Section and Asset Forfeiture & Money Laundering Section to put an end to this criminal behavior and deliver results for the hardworking people of Pennsylvania.”
The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorneys General Linda Montag and David Augenbraun and Assistant Chief Deputy Attorney General Adrian Shchuka in Bucks County Court of Common Pleas.
