HARRISBURG — Attorney General Michelle Henry announced that Caleb Schweikarth, of Bedford County, was sentenced to seven to 14 years in prison for sexually assaulting a young child, beginning when the child was just seven years old.

In October, Schweikarth, 39, was found guilty by a jury of indecent assault and corruption of minors.

As a result of his conviction, he must register for life pursuant to SORNA, the Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act.

“This defendant took advantage of a young child’s trust by subjecting the child to repeated sexual abuse over a period of years,” said Attorney General Henry. “This sentencing ensures that the defendant will be held accountable for his many crimes. My office is committed to protecting Pennsylvania’s children, and we will do everything in our power to hold accountable those who sexually abuse and exploit them.”

According to testimony, the defendant had a close relationship with the victim and her family. This relationship allowed him to be alone, unsupervised, with the child for extended periods of time. Schweikarth committed the abuse during these times alone with the child, in her family home.

This case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Joseph Sembrot.
