HARRISBURG – Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the arrest of a Montgomery County man charged with stealing more than $100,000 in life insurance payouts from his 19-year-old disabled former stepson, following the death of the victim’s mother.

The Office of Attorney General charged 38-year-old Christopher O. Johnson with felony counts of financial exploitation of a care-dependent person and related offenses.

Johnson was arrested Monday in Upper Pottsgrove Township on the felony warrant. Johnson was arraigned and bail was set at $25,000 unsecured. He is prohibited from having any contact with the victim.

“This defendant was once a parental figure for the victim, but instead of protecting a vulnerable young man during an incredibly difficult time, he exploited the victim’s disability for his own financial gain,” Attorney General Sunday said. “My office remains committed to holding accountable those who prey on vulnerable individuals and abuse positions of trust for personal profit.”

According to the investigation, Johnson stole more than $100,000 in life insurance payouts belonging to the victim in a three-month period after the victim’s mother died from a stroke in 2025. The victim has exhibited lifelong cognitive and neurodevelopmental disabilities and has depended on the support of others for assistance with daily activities.

The case will be prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Ani Hatza. Criminal charges, and any discussion thereof, are merely allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
