Repeat Sex Offender from Warren County Jailed up to 40 Years for Child Sexual Abuse Material

HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that a Warren County man has been sentenced to 18 to 40 years in prison for possessing child sexual abuse material — his second conviction for this type of conduct.

John Russell Castor, Jr., 36, of Sheffield, pleaded guilty to ten felony counts of possession of child sexual abuse material. The sentencing judge also ordered Castor to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Castor has a prior conviction for possession of child sexual abuse material.

“This defendant has had opportunities to reform his criminal behavior and has instead chosen to continually exploit and abuse children,” Attorney General Sunday said. “This sentence guarantees the defendant will serve a lengthy prison term and be subject to lifetime registration and notification requirements with law enforcement. I applaud our Child Predator Section for their diligent work to find offenders who cause harm to children and hold them accountable.”

The investigation began when multiple tips indicated that between August 2023 and November 2023, a person uploaded, viewed, or shared numerous files of child sexual abuse material. The IP address led investigators to Castor’s Warren County residence where a search warrant was executed. Agents seized an electronic tablet and cell phone belonging to Castor that contained hundreds of files depicting child sexual abuse material.

This case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Alison Bragle.
