HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced charges against a Schuylkill County man regarding sexual abuse of a 9-month-old child — which the man recorded with his cellphone.

Jalvi DeJesus Nunez, 19, of Shenandoah, was arrested and charged Thursday with sexual abuse of children, possession of sexual abuse material, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, and related offenses. His bail was set at $100,000.

The Shenandoah Police Department contacted the Office of Attorney General’s Child Predator Section earlier this month, and agents acted swiftly to gather evidence leading to criminal charges and Nunez’s arrest. Shenandoah police and the Office of Attorney General worked collaboratively on this case.

“This is heinous, unfathomable conduct that has no place in civilized society,” Attorney General Sunday said. “I commend our Child Predator Section for — in a matter of hours — acting with urgency to get this offender off the street, so he can do no further harm to this innocent child. There is no one more vulnerable than an infant, and we will work to hold this defendant fully accountable for truly vile behavior.”

Earlier this month, the Shenandoah Police Department received a call from a witness who saw a video of Nunez in lewd contact with a 9-month-old child. Another witness also saw the video and provided information to police.

After being contacted by police, Office of Attorney General agents and prosecutors worked to secure a search warrant, which led to seizure of the video recording and contact with Nunez, who gave a statement to investigators.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Mary Phillips of the Office of Attorney General Child Predator Section. Criminal charges, and any discussion thereof, are merely allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
