HARRISBURG — Attorney General Josh Shapiro and 43 state Attorneys General yesterday filed a motion to unseal their complaint against Teva Pharmaceuticals and 19 of the nation’s largest generic drug manufacturers. The complaint, filed on May 10 in U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, alleges a broad conspiracy to artificially inflate and manipulate prices, reduce competition and unreasonably restrain trade for more than 100 different drugs.

“Our lawsuit alleges that top executives of the nation’s largest drug manufacturers conspired to inflate prices at the expense of Pennsylvanians and the American people, sometimes by more than 1000%.” said Attorney General Josh Shapiro. “They did this to increase their bottoms lines and service their own personal greed—and the public has a right to know the full extent of the evidence we have supporting this. I’m proud to stand with my colleague Attorneys General in requesting that the Court unseal the complaint so that the American people can read the truth for themselves.”

This complaint, filed by Connecticut Attorney General William Tong, is the second to be filed in an ongoing, expanding investigation that the Connecticut Office of the Attorney General has referred to as possibly the largest cartel case in the history of the United States. The first complaint was similarly filed under seal initially, and later released in full with permission from the court.
