AG Shapiro: Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association Calls for Police Hiring Reform
HARRISBURG – Today, the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association formally joined the coalition formed by Attorney General Shapiro to end the practice of law enforcement agencies unknowingly hiring officers with documented patterns of excessive use of force or other misconduct.
AG Shapiro Secures $2.75 Million for Pennsylvania Mortgage Loan Borrowers
HARRISBURG — Attorney General Josh Shapiro, as part of a multistate effort, today announced that his office obtained an $86.3 million settlement from Nationstar Mortgage, the country’s fourth-largest mortgage servicer. He is joined by 49 other Attorneys General, the District of Columbia, and other state and federal agencies. The settlement in the form of a consent judgment, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, resolves allegations that Nationstar, which does business as “Mr. Cooper,” violated consumer protection laws. In Pennsylvania, the settlement affected 2,234 loans for a total of $2.75 million in restitution for these borrowers.
AG Shapiro Secures $11.9 Million in Debt Relief for 1,481 Pennsylvania ITT Tech Students in Multistate Settlement
HARRISBURG – Attorney General Josh Shapiro has secured an agreement to obtain $11.9 million in debt relief for former ITT Tech students in Pennsylvania as part of a settlement with 48 attorneys general and the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This agreement is in the form of an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance.

Attorney General Shapiro Announces $6 Million Settlement with Debt-Buying and Debt-Collector Companies
HARRISBURG —Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced today that Pennsylvania and 41 other states and the District of Columbia have reached a $6 million settlement with Encore Capital Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries Midland Credit Management, Inc. and Midland Funding, LLC, which collectively form one of the nation’s largest debt buyers. The settlement requires the companies to make key reforms to how they collect consumers’ debts and eliminates over $256,000 in debts owed by 155 Pennsylvanians.
