Kathleen G. Kane - Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General - Protecting Pennsylvanians

Attorney General's Consumer Protection Week events promote goal of better engagement

HARRISBURG - Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane will host five Consumer Fairs across the Commonwealth this week to engage consumers and provide resources for attendees to become more proactive and better informed and protected as consumers. These events are hosted in conjunction with National Consumer Protection Week. Various federal, state, local and nonprofit organizations will be represented at each fair in different regions of the Commonwealth.

Attorney General Kane has made consumer education, engagement and outreach in Pennsylvania a priority. The Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection provides valuable resources to thousands of Pennsylvania residents each year. In addition to accepting and mediating consumer complaints, the Bureau provides resources on consumer safety and advocates on behalf of consumer rights and protections.

Consumer protection has been a major issue in the news over the past months. Data breaches at major retailers, health providers, and websites have threatened the personal and financial security of millions of Pennsylvanians. Most recently, Attorney General Kane has asked consumers to file complaints regarding recent alarming spikes in consumer electric bills.

The full schedule of Consumer Protection Week events presented by Attorney General Kane and the Bureau of Consumer Protection is below.

Attorney General Kane thanks all organizations participating in various events throughout the state, including but not limited to: AARP, Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Area Agencies on Aging, Allegheny County Treasurer's Office, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Better Business Bureaus, Community Action Partnership of Cambria County, Crime Victim Center of Erie County, Department of Banking and Securities, Erie County Diabetes Association, Erie County Community Emergency Response Team, Meals on Wheels, PennDOT, Public Utility Commission, SAFENET, Social Security Administration, Veteran's Medical Center, United States Postal Service, Voices for Independence and the Urban League of Pittsburgh.

The information these organizations share with the public during National Consumer Protection Week and throughout the year help inform important consumer decisions about finances, privacy, technology and more.
