Butler County woman charged with trafficking bulk quantities of marijuana
HARRISBURG - Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane today announced the arrest of Candice Kelly, 64, 410 Kepple Road, Sarver, for allegedly trafficking as much as 100 pounds of marijuana a year since 2009 in Butler County. The arrest is the result of a joint investigation with the Pennsylvania State Police.
Evidence and testimony regarding the alleged drug trafficking were presented to a statewide investigating grand jury, which recommended the criminal charges being filed today.
According to grand jury, Kelly received three shipments of 30 to 40 pounds of marijuana per year since 2009, which she allegedly sold for $3,400 per pound. Agents executing a search warrant at Kelly's Sarver residence seized approximately $392,781 and 64 pounds of marijuana, hashish and Psilocybin mushrooms.
Kelly was arraigned by Butler County Magisterial District Judge Sue Haggerty, who set bail at $100,000 unsecured. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 5, 2014.
Kelly is charged with one count of possession with intent to deliver marijuana; one count of possession with intent to deliver Psilocybin mushrooms; one count of possession of marijuana; one count of possession of Psilocybin mushrooms; one count of criminal conspiracy; and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Attorney General Kane thanked the Pennsylvania State Police for their assistance with the investigation.
The case will be prosecuted in Butler County by Senior Deputy Attorney General Tomm Mutschler of the Attorney General's Drug Strike Force Section.
