Winners of 2013 "Drug-Free" Calendar Contest announced

HARRISBURG - The Attorney General's Office today announced the winners of the office's 16th annual "Drug-Free" Calendar Contest.

Each year, fifth-grade students from across Pennsylvania are encouraged to create an original work of art illustrating a drug-free message of their choice.  Twelve winners represent each month of the 2013 calendar year and the Grand Prize winner's artwork is displayed on the calendar's cover. 

This year, the winners were chosen from more than 1,500 entries from schools throughout Pennsylvania. The winners were chosen based on the artists' creativity and ability to illustrate and convey a drug-free message.

During a ceremony, each of the winners was presented with certificates of achievement and a monetary prize.

The following students were named the 2013 "Drug-Free" Calendar Contest Winners:

"Every student who entered a drawing in the 2013 calendar contest should be proud of themselves, and each one is a winner for saying no to drugs, alcohol and tobacco," Attorney General Linda Kelly said.

The Office of Attorney General has created a number of exciting educational programs to help schools, parents and communities empower children with knowledge to keep them safe. These programs feature customized lesson plans, interactive learning activities and powerful messages that speak directly to kids and adults. They are free-of-charge, and speakers are available to visit schools and community groups to discuss these important subjects, which include online safety, cyberbullying, drugs, and gun violence, and the newest program on prescription drug abuse.
