Environmental Crimes Section
The Environmental Crimes Section of the Office of Attorney General is responsible for investigating and prosecuting violations of crimes against the environment.
This section handles violations of the Commonwealth's environmental and criminal statutes involving the generation, transportation, storage and disposal of solid hazardous and other wastes, working in close conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
The Office of Attorney General does not have original jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute these crimes. However, the OAG can gain jurisdiction either by referral from a district attorney or the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Most cases handled by the Environmental Crimes Section are based on referrals from this state Agency.
