The Attorney General Office is dedicated to ensuring that Pennsylvania consumers are treated fairly and properly.
The work of the Attorney General's Public Protection Division includes guarding Pennsylvanians against telemarketing scams or identity theft, fighting for civil rights, monitoring charitable organizations and protecting consumers from deceptive advertising or other unfair business practices.
Each year, the Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection receives more than 50,000 complaints from consumers - ranging from shoddy home remodeling work to violations of Pennsylvania's Do Not Call law.
The Health Care Section helps consumers who are struggling with health insurance companies or health care providers, fighting to get consumers the health care services they have paid for.
The Antitrust Section protects consumers from price-fixing, monopolies and other unfair business practices.
The Charitable Trusts & Organizations Section monitors charitable groups and charitable fundraising, ensuring that donations are used properly and that non-profit organizations fulfill their charitable and social missions.
The Tobacco Enforcement Section monitors and enforces the settlement agreement between Pennsylvania and the tobacco companies, working to prevent the marketing of tobacco to children and to reduce the overall level of smoking.
The Civil Rights Enforcement Section works closely with other state, local and federal agencies to investigate and address complaints about civil rights violations.
The Office of Consumer Advocate is an independent office within the Office of Attorney General, which represents the interests of consumers in matters involving public utilities.
